PROJECTS WE
CURRENTLY SUPPORT

The second project we have selected is with the help of our local
church, Wheaton Bible Church. Funds we raise are supporting a project
in Kenya, Africa called “Hope For Life Kenya”. We
are excited that the funds we raise will be put directly and entirely
to use in this project and that we will have frequent feedback as to
the impact we are having in the lives of many children.
About Hope For Life Kenya
Hope for Life Kenya (“HFLK”) was started by
Josephine Kiarii. Josephine was a well-paid, educated government
official in Kenya several years ago, but was not content with the
plight of the people. As she looked around her poor rural community
outside the city of Nakuru, she saw poverty everywhere and lots of
orphaned children. So Josephine did something radical; she quit her
job, and devoted herself to saving these kids, many of them orphaned by
HIV/AIDS. In early 2004, she formed Hope for Life Kenya, with the
purpose of reaching out to orphaned children with love.

HFLK is not an
“orphanage” in that it is not a home for the
children. Instead, the children are housed throughout the community of
Nakuru by caring families. HFLK meets many of the kids’ needs
through a daily feeding program, providing for many of them what may be
their only meal of the day. The Center also attends to the
kids’ physical, emotional, educational and vocational
needs. The funds that we raise for this project are
being used to provide school uniforms and shoes, food for the children,
clothes, textbooks, and the construction of a new Hope For Life Center.
WHAT WE HAVE SUPPORTED IN THE PAST
The first project we selected was with the help of World Vision. Funds
we raised were sent to World Vision to support a project in Musele,
Zambia (Africa).

About Musele
Musele has one of the greatest numbers of orphaned children mostly as a
result of the AIDS pandemic. It is estimated that there is nearly 1,000
children in Musele without the love and support of their parents
(nearly 20% of the children living in Musele). This is expected to peak
by the year 2010. While blood relatives take care of many of these
children, these families are over-extended due to the high poverty
rates. More than 75% of the children live under the poverty line and
50% of them are chronically malnourished. About half of the school age
children are not in school.
Children are Musele’s future and the majority of children are
still HIV negative. It is essential and urgent to ensure that these
children have the chance to remain healthy and HIV free to thrive,
develop and to reach their God given potential.
World
Vision Project
The funds that we sent to World Vision for this project are being used
to increase food security, reduce the risk of HIV infection,
psychosocial support for orphaned and vulnerable children, age based
education and delaying orphaning through home based care of the
critically ill.
