Bringing Hope to an Entire Community in Zambia

archives.jpg

The first major project supported by Kids Caring 4 Kids was in AIDS ravaged Zambia, in partnership with World Vision in 2004.

It was during this year that Kendall Ciesemier, founder of KC4K, underwent two liver transplants and asked friends and family to send donations instead of flowers or gifts.

Kendall herself had adopted a young AIDS orphan named Benite through World Vision who was doing so well, thanks to her $360 annual support. So why not adopt an entire community with hundreds of parentless children like Benite.

Musele has one of the greatest numbers of orphaned children, mostly as a result of the AIDS pandemic.  It is estimated that there are nearly 1,000 children in Musele without the love and support of their parents (nearly 20% of the children living there). This is expected to peak by the year 2010. While blood relatives take care of many of these children, these families are over-extended due to the high poverty rates. More than 75% of the children live under the poverty line and 50% of them are chronically malnourished.

Children are Musele’s future and the majority of children are still HIV negative. It is essential and urgent to ensure that these children have the chance to remain healthy and free to thrive, develop and to reach their God given potential.

The $13,000 grant to World Vision for our premier project was used to increase food security, reduce the risk of HIV infection, offer education and support for orphaned and vulnerable children, and delay orphaning by providing home based-care for critically ill family members.
