Dear Friend,

Over the last few months, we've received TONS of requests for funding. Now we are forming a committee to review each of these requests. The need is so great! It's hard not to get overwhelmed. But we know from experience that it doesn't take a lot to make a difference. It's been exciting to see what we can all do together.

Chicago Magazine picked me to be one of the seven Chicagoans of the Year for 2007. What an honor! The article in the January 2008 issue was entitled "The Transformers." Tom Maday of Chicago Magazine took this photo for the article. Really, we can all be transformers, no matter our age!

What's up
Hope for Life Center/Nakuru, Kenya
This community center serves desperately needy children, many of them orphaned by AIDS/HIV. Hope for Life Kenya (HFLK) reaches out to 120 children through a daily feeding program and other services. Three years ago, construction began on a main building to house HFLK's many programs. Kids Caring 4 Kids' donation of $30,000 was nearly enough to finish construction and got them into their new building. We are now working with other groups of kids here in the U.S. to raise money to furnish and equip the center. Josephine Kiarii, founder of Hope for Life Center, says she sees orphaned boys and girls move from hopelessness to hope and promise every day.

Musele, Zambia
Nearly 20% of the children living in Musele are orphans, mostly due to the AIDS pandemic. In 2006, we sent $35,000 to World Vision for the children of Musele. This money has helped meet the physical and emotional needs of orphans and other vulnerable children. The work here continues to reduce the risk of malnutrition and HIV infection.

President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and me! Can you believe it? I was so surprised and so excited to meet President Clinton at my high school and then to be on the Oprah Show the same day. During the show, President Clinton told me that a friend of his was giving KC4K $500,000! Unbelievable! The Oprah Show aired Sept. 4 and again on Thanksgiving.

Ways 2 Get Involved

Here are a few ways you can help AIDS orphans:
  • Get a group of kids together and launch your own fundraiser-it could be a bake sale or a basketball tournament!
  • Write a check or donate on-line to Kids Caring 4 Kids. We are a 501(c) (3), so your gift is tax-deductible.
  • Buy a KC4K T-Shirt (go to our website-we've got lots of colors and sizes)

Here's how some kids have been inspired to help AIDS orphans:
  • Immaculate Conception's 3 on 3: This church youth group in North Carolina is sponsoring a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. Each team will raise $100 for KC4K and wear our T-Shirts. T's will also be sold to spectators.
  • Sandburg Elementary School's Make-A-Difference Day: Students in Kendall's home town came up with fundraising projects (e.g. homemade greeting cards, jewelry, hand painted pumpkins, etc.). The school raised over $3,000 for KC4K!
  • Westfield High School's Choral Concert: This Virginia HS with over 3,000 students dedicated their world music concert to Kids Caring 4 Kids. Students sold T-Shirts and accepted donations, raising over $2,000!
  • Somerset County Technical School's T-Shirt Contest: This New Jersey school held a T-Shirt design contest and gathered $434 for KC4K.
  • St. Francis High School's "Shave a Teacher's Head" Drive: This Illinois prep school raised $1,600. Students voted, with their money, for the teacher they wanted to see with a shaved head. The "lucky" teacher with the most votes agreed to shave her (yes, her) head.

AIDS FACTS
In sub-Saharan Africa
  • AIDS is the leading cause of death among Africans ages 15 to 59
  • 12 million children have lost one or both parents to AIDS
  • 20% of all children in Zambia are orphans, 57% of them have lost both parents due to AIDS
  • 1 out of every 8 children in Africa will be an orphan by 2010
What's next 4 Kids Caring 4 Kids?

We've told Kendall that Kids Caring 4 Kids is like a teenager who has grown two feet in one week! In 2004, Kendall gathered up $360 of her own money to sponsor an AIDS orphan. That one act of compassion has blossomed into hundreds of good deeds by many other children and adults.

When our daughter founded Kids Caring 4 Kids, Kendall's first goal was to raise $60,000 for AIDS orphans. That goal is now $1 million--and we are more than half-way there. Frankly, we are stunned! After receiving the generous gift of $500,000, we knew we had entered a new stage in KC4K's development.

So, what now? Lately, that's been the BIG question in the Ciesemier home. We want to continue to help AIDS orphans and inspire and equip other kids to make a difference in their world. With that in mind, here is what's next for KC4K:

  • Pour more energy into getting KC4K's message out about how kids can make a difference
  • Carefully review funding opportunities to make the best choices about where to allocate your gifts
  • Respond to the many speaking requests Kendall has received. Because she can't say "yes" to them all, we will be creating a KC4K video.
  • Expand our Board of Directors (in the past it has just been our family).

We believe Kids Caring 4 Kids has an important and urgent mission. By 2010, the number of children orphaned by AIDS is expected to exceed 25 million - slightly more than the population of Texas. That's why it is so important that all of us, children and adults, work together and provide hope to these precious children.

Thank you for your support of Kendall and KC4K!
