Feeding Hungry Kids in Zambia

Praying for food - small

It’s amazing what our gift of $20,000 to fund the work of Bright Hope International can do in Zambia where people earn less than $1 day. The bulk of our gift provides a regular feeding program in two communities—feeding nearly 450 children who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS, as well as their families. It also provides food for widows and AIDS patients in the communities.

It’s a critical part of a holistic work by our “partner on the ground” who takes our funds and uses them to feed hungry stomachs and empower communities with hope.

Update on Beracah Orphan Care … Helping 180 AIDS Orphans

With over 15% of the population in Zambia affected by HIV/AIDS, the Bright Hope project known as Beracah Orphan Care is providing hope for many children and families. With the help of KC4K, nearly 200 orphans receive food, school uniforms and supplies, and an education. They also get extra food parcels for the families who have taken them in, as well as income producing opportunities to help lift them from poverty.

Fifteen-year-old Benson is just one example of the orphans who are being fed, educated and cared for through the Beracah Orphan Care program. Benson lives with his grandparents, three siblings, and cousins. Like many grandparents who care for their orphaned grandchildren, they are elderly, wearied from a lifetime of poverty, and doing their best with very little. Through this life-impacting program at Baracah, Benson receives food, schooling, and is learning job skills. According to our contacts there, “Benson will be better prepared to get a good job when he graduates. That means he will be able to help provide for his siblings and grandparents.”

Feeding Orphans at the Isubilo HIV/AIDS Program

With support from Kids Caring 4 Kids, 260 children are being fed and loved at the Isubilo Children and Youth Care Center located in Ndola, Zambia. Our substantial gift to Bright Hope’s efforts in this region sustains a regular feeding program for these children who have lost their parents AND it supports outreach to orphans, widows, and HIV/AIDS patients.

Christbel is one of the orphaned teens involved in the children’s program whose life has been radically changed in a positive way! Recently she was honored for being the “most improved pupil”—in sharp contrast to the rebellious child she was when she came to the program. Today she has a bright future. Why? Because she has an education and is learning to design and tailor clothing.

“Even if only one child in a poverty-stricken family learns a skill or graduates from school, the entire family benefits," says Bright Hope. "That child is able to earn a wage that provides food, clothing, and shelter for the family. Many children at Isubilo are now being given the opportunity for a better future through the generosity of Kids Caring 4 Kids.”
